I recently ran a poll on Twitter and the big question was “What’s your FAVORITE polish finish? Holographic, creme, glitter (chunky or micro)? Shimmer, matte, duo chrome, or jelly? ” According to the feedback I recieved from the people that responded, CREMES won with 35% of your votes! Most of you agreed that “Creme’s are classic;  you can never go wrong with a creme polish.” Here’s a popular creme, China Glaze For Audrey:

Coming in second was HOLOGRAPHICS with 23%! Can you believe that at one point during the poll, holographics and cremes were tied? I think the creme fans jumped on at the right time to give holos a run for their money! In the end, you all love holographics because of their “uniqueness”. I have to agree with you on that one! In third place was GLITTER with 13% of your votes! I understand that many people have a love/hate relationship with glitter. While you adore glitter polishes, you can’t stand the removal process! I completely understand where you’re coming from: How can something so beautiful be such a pain in the whoo-haa? Well, here’s a tip that’s been shared with me many times: Soak a piece of felt (this can be picked up in fabric stores) in actone and start rubbing away! The felt won’t break up into a million pieces like a cotton pad, so I promise that it will last through the removal process of all 10 fingers! With that being said, here’s one of China Glaze’s best-selling glitter polishes, Ruby Pumps:

Not to be forgotten, shimmer and duo-chrome polishes both came in at 7%, while jelly and matte polishes recieved 4% of the votes.

Ahh, to live the life of the celebrity manicurist! Jet setting, fashion shoots, celebrities and fashion shows from coast to coast keeps them plenty busy! While traveling so much, it’s important to a manicurist to have everything they could possible need on hand so that they don’t hold up the shoot or keep the client waiting. Here are some of the most important items that celebrity manicurist Julie Kandalec brings with her. Let’s take a peek inside!

 Julie Kandalec is often on the go - one minute she’s working on a magazine cover and the next week she’s at a fashion show working back stage.  Her kit includes:

• Tons of implements (cuticle clippers, nail clippers, and cuticle pushers)

• Gap filling adhesive
• Cotton bands, pedicure slippers, and toe separators
• Nail and cuticle treatments
• Empty polish bottles for mixing and creating custom colors

Julie likes to keep and store the polish in the boxes that they come in. She figures that since they don’t break while in transit from the warehouse, they probably won’t break while she’s traveling. Clever girl! She’ll often change the colors that she brings with her as the season changes or whatever the editorial calls for. She recently did an advertisement campaign with Victoria’s Secret and brought along all sheer pinks and nudes, since that’s what was requested!

You might also be wondering why the polishes are stored upside down: This is so Julie has easy access to the colors! Rather than her and the client digging around for what they need, she can grab exactly what she’s looking for since the color of the bottle is visible at a quick glance. Not one to be unprepared, Julie also keeps additional polishes (organized by color) in large zip lock bags.
